BAOBAB SECONDARY SCHOOL (GIRLS CAMPUS)

Baobab Secondary School basically started in 2005 by enrolling girls students in the Girls Campus. The School was then officially inaugurated in 2007 by His Excellency Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete the fourth President of the United Republic of Tanzania. Its primary purpose is to educate a girl who is freed and liberated by mental power and can work independently in the society. Our mission here is to provide quality education that empowers girls such that they are able to find active career paths instead of just aspiring to be merely house wives!

LOCATION

Baobab Secondary School (Girls Campus) is located at Mapinga village, Mapinga Ward, Bagamoyo District, in the Coastal Region (PWANI). It is located along Bagamoyo road, which is a highway towards tourists’ attractions in the historical Town of Bagamoyo. It is estimated to be 45 kilometres from Dar es salaam City centre, 30 kilometres from Bagamoyo Town and 7 kilometres from the Indian Ocean. It occupies 18 acres with all essential infrastructures and facilities.

THE STAFF

The day to day management of the school is in the hands of the School Manager who is assisted by the Principal. The Principal also oversees the daily running of both the girls’ stream and the boys’ stream.
The day to day running of the Girls Campus is in the hands of the School Principal who is assisted by the Deputy Principal – Academic (Girls), Deputy Principal – Examinations and the Academic Masters (A level and O level respectively).
Below the Academic Masters, there are Heads of five (05) Academic Departments. These Departments are: Mathematics Department, Languages Department, Social Sciences Department, Sciences Department and Business and ICS Department. Teachers work in their respective Departments.

The CURRICULUM

The school follows the Tanzanian national – based Curriculum. High quality teaching and learning is emphasized where dedicated and committed teachers provide relevant and purposeful programs which respects and develops an individual student’s inquiry mind, interests, abilities and talents. The School offers both “O” level and “A” level courses. In “O” level the subjects taught are: Basic Mathematics, History, Geography, Civics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Book Keeping, Commerce, Computer Studies, Kiswahili, English, Literature in English, Arabic Language, Chinese language, Bible Knowledge and Islamic Knowledge. For “A” level, the subjects taught are based on their combinations. These are: PCM, PCB, PGM, CBG, ECA, HGE, EGM, HGL, HKL and HGK. The school is committed to meet the special needs of slow learners ensuring that they make progress through well designed strategies and Programs.

ACADEMIC PROGESS

The School has performed very well in both internal and National Examinations in Form Two, Four and Six. In 2014 the school produced the best student (Tanzania One) in the country in Form Four National Examination. Also in 2014, it produced the best student number 06 in Business Studies in the Form six National Examinations. Moreover, in 2015, the School produced the best student number 07 for female candidates in Form Four National Examinations. On top of that, in 2019, the school produced the best student (Tanzania One) in Business studies in Form six National Examinations. In 2020, the school produced the best student number 04 in Form six National Examinations (Business Studies). These achievements have been recognized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Vocation by awarding the school the Certificates of best performance in National Examinations for the year 2013, 2014 and 2015. (Best Performing Non – Government Secondary School.

Extra – Curricular activities:

The school offers a variety of indoor and outdoor sports and games for students. It has qualified sports staff for training. Also the students travel regularly on Study Tours both inside the country and abroad to learn practically the contents which were taught theoretically in class

Other Services

The school has Libraries, Science and Computer Laboratories, spacious classrooms, Examinations Halls, Lecture Theater, Conference Hall, Modern Dormitories, adequate and reliable water supply, stand by generator of 80 KVA, Biogas plant used for cooking, attractive compound gardens, reliable transport facilities for study tours, sports and entertainment events.
